DIABETES TYPE 2 AND YOU
TREAT YOURSELF LIKE A DOG.
Have you ever had anyone so excited to see you that they wet on your
leg? Probably not but you know someone whose dog does that. Your goal
in life should be to treat yourself like the person your dog thinks you
are. Your dog takes you for walks, sits on your lap, follows you around
or lies on the floor and follows you with its eyes. Some folks check the
dog’s bowl more often than they check their own blood sugar.
Treat yourself like a dog. Beyond a wholesome discipline, go easy on
yourself. Did you ever wonder why it’s easier for a vet to control
a dog’s blood sugar than for people to control blood sugar? Dogs
are different but they eat predictable meals and have about the same exercise
every day. A friend of a friend, Larry, eats the same food for breakfast
and lunch every day because it allows him to always know how his blood
sugar is doing.
Don’t let diabetes run your life. Make a place for it in your life
like you do for exercise. Take a look in the mirror. Your dog sees something
wonderful in you. Keep looking until you see that God does not make junk.
Most of us have a poor self-concept and need someone to believe in us.
That person can be a spouse, a friend, neighbor or man’s best friend,
your dog. Puppies and dogs increase our health and give more joy to life.
The diabetes support group meets the second Monday of each month at 7
pm in our office. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge.
