DIABETES TYPE 2 AND YOU
WHY I LOVE INSULIN!
When diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, the first question is always, do
I need insulin? The answer is yes you do need insulin but you don't always
need insulin injections. Type 2 diabetes is a deficiency of insulin or
a resistance to the body using insulin that you are making. The result
is the same - not enough insulin. Often presciption medications taken
orally can decrease your blook sugar without insulin shots. Each type
of oral medication can decrease you blook sugar between 30 and 60 points
and there are four types of medications. Someday you may need insulin
either by innjection or in the form of insulin spray (available soon).
Nearly everyone that takes insulin feels better and has more energy since
type 2 diabetes is a deficiency of insulin and taking insulin resotres
the blood glucose toward normal. Insulin has no limit to the amount it
can decrease your blood sugar compared to oral medications. Who like shots?
Nobody like shots but they like the rsult the injections provide. A nine-year-old
girl with diabetes taught a 40-year-old woman with diabetes that she could
give herself a shot that didn't hurt. She put the needle against her skin
until she found an area that wasn't painful and then injected her insulin.
Ask you healthcare provider to show you how to do this.
The diabetes support group meets the second Monday of each month at 7
pm in our office. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge.
