DIABETES TYPE 2 AND YOU
DIABESITY, THE LINK BETWEEN DIABETES AND OBESITY
Diabesity is the relationship between type 2 diabetes and obesity. Dr.
Calvin Ezren, who perfromed research with Dr. Best, who discovered insulin,
states there's been a 33% increase in diabetes in this country in the
past 10 years. Most of this is related to obesity often involving young
people and children as young at 10 years old. At Arkansas Children's Hospital
96% of children with type 2 diabetes are obese. The problem is that insulin
is adipogenic, it helps produce fat. The more fat you have, the more insulin
you make. Stored fat is toxis to people according to Dr. Ezren and he
recommends supplements when temporarily cutting down on consumptions of
some fruits while working off the fat. This is a metabolic trap. How do
you get out of this trap?
In his book, YOUR FAT CAN MAKE YOU THIN, Dr. Ezren recommends restricting
carbohydrates. Carbohydrates include fruits and what some healthcare providers
refer to as the white death - whte sugar, white rice, white pasta, white
bread. These foods all cause insulin to be released and cause fat to be
accumulated.
In the United States, DIABESITY is a trademark of SHAPE UP AMERICA, a
non-profit organization that raises awareness of the effects of obesity
and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Avoid sweets and start sweating with
exercise.
The diabetes support group meets the second Monday of each month at 7
pm in our office. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge.
